Fewer recipients than the tag has contacts
Expected behaviour. The recipient list is worked out at send time and excludes:
- Blocked contacts, always.
- Unsubscribed contacts, when the template's category is Marketing.
So a marketing campaign to a tag with 1,000 contacts can legitimately send to 940. That is the opt-out handling doing its job.
Check the counts in Contacts by filtering Status → Blocked and Unsubscribed.
Send now and Schedule are greyed out
The tooltip says Add contacts before sending or Add contacts before scheduling. The audience would reach nobody.
Either the workspace has no contacts, or the tags you selected match none. Check in Contacts with the same tag filter.
The send was refused
| Message mentions | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Broadcast reach or plan limit | The audience is larger than your plan's per-broadcast cap | Split the send by tag, or change plan |
| Subscription | Outbound sending is blocked | See subscription states |
| Template | The template is not approved | See template problems |
"Connect a WhatsApp number first"
Campaigns need at least one enabled WhatsApp number to send from. See phone numbers.
A lot of failures
Open the campaign for per-recipient outcomes.
| Pattern | Likely cause |
|---|---|
| Failures across the whole send | Meta payment method missing, or the messaging limit was hit mid-send. Check SettingsWhatsApp. |
| Scattered failures | Invalid numbers, or numbers not on WhatsApp. Clean the list. |
| Sent but not delivered | Devices offline, or the customer blocked you. See delivery problems. |
Your messaging limit is the one people forget. Meta caps how many unique customers you can start a conversation with per rolling 24 hours. A campaign larger than your tier will fail once it crosses the line.
Everyone got the same name
Template variables in a campaign take one value for the whole send. There is no per-contact merge field in campaigns today.
If you need per-customer values, use an automation, which maps variables from the triggering event.
A scheduled campaign did not go out
Check its status in the list. Scheduled means it is still waiting; Cancelled means it was stopped.
If it was scheduled while the subscription was fine but sending is now blocked, the send will fail. Check SettingsBilling.
Cannot delete a campaign
Only Draft campaigns can be deleted. Sent, sending, scheduled and cancelled campaigns are kept as a record.
