Connect Shopify
Connecting Shopify lets automations send WhatsApp messages when orders, shipments and checkouts happen, and lets you sync Shopify customers into Contacts.
Who can do this
- Owner
- Admin
The Shopify card says so directly: only owners and admins can connect a store.
Before you start
- A Shopify store you own or admin.
- An approved WhatsApp template for each automation you plan to run.
- Customers with consent to receive WhatsApp messages.
Connect
-
Go to SettingsIntegrations. You will see cards for Shopify and Zapier (Zapier is marked Coming soon).
-
Select the Shopify card, then Connect.
-
Complete Shopify's install for your store.
When it is done the card shows Connected, and the Shopify screen fills in with your store name, domain, plan, currency and install date, plus an Open in Shopify link.
Set up your checkout first
This is the step people skip, and it makes every commerce automation fail silently. Without a phone number captured at checkout there is nobody to message.
The Shopify screen shows this as Enable event messages in your Shopify store. In your Shopify admin:
-
Open your Shopify Checkout settings.
-
Under Customer contact method, choose Phone number (or Phone number or email).
-
Under Customer information → Shipping address phone number, set it to Required.
-
Under Marketing options, enable Show a sign-up option for SMS at checkout.
Without these, Boldally has no phone number to send to and events fail quietly.
What connecting gives you
| Screen section | What it does |
|---|---|
| Connection health | Whether webhooks are delivering, the last event received, and when the connection expires |
| Storefront widget | A floating WhatsApp chat button for your storefront |
| Advanced automations | Link through to the automations builder |
| Enable event messages | The checkout setup steps above |
| Variable inspector | Shows what the Shopify variables resolve to, for checking template bindings |
| Sync Shopify customers | Import customers into Contacts |
| Recent activity | Recent events received from the store |
Build the automations
Connecting Shopify does not send anything on its own. You still create automations for the events you care about.
Go to Automations → New automation, or start from one of the starter templates: Order confirmation, Payment received, Shipping update, Abandoned checkout, Refund notice.
See automations and the full event and variable catalogue.
Disconnect
At the bottom of the Shopify screen, Disconnect. You are asked to type
confirm.
Disconnecting removes Boldally's webhooks from the store and stops all automations. Contacts already synced stay in your workspace.
A note on the "Shopify (Testing)" card
You may see a second card, Shopify (Testing), described as a temporary app used while the public app finishes Shopify's review. It has the same features. Only use it if Boldally has asked you to.
