Tags
Tags are labels on contacts. They drive inbox filters, contact filters and campaign audiences.
Who can do this
- Agent
- Admin
- Owner
Agents can add and remove tags on a contact from the inbox. Renaming or deleting a tag across the workspace needs admin rights.
Add a tag from a conversation
In the details panel, under Tags, select +.
Type to search existing tags. Select one to add it, or select Create "..." to make a new tag on the spot. Esc closes the box.
To remove one, select the × on the tag chip.
Because tags live on the contact, a tag added here shows everywhere that contact appears.
Manage tags across the workspace
Contacts → Manage tags (admins and owners). That is where tags are renamed and deleted for everyone.
Tag contacts in bulk
-
Go to Contacts.
-
Tick the contacts you want, or use the header checkbox for the page.
-
Select Tag in the toolbar that appears.
-
Add or remove tags for the whole selection.
Filter by tag
In the inbox. The tag icon next to the search box. With more than one tag selected you get Any (at least one tag) or All (every tag).
In contacts. The Tag button in the toolbar, with the same Any/All choice.
Both are reflected in the page URL, so a filtered view can be bookmarked or shared.
Tags and campaigns
When you create a campaign you choose an audience: All contacts or By tags. Tags are the whole targeting mechanism today, so it is worth keeping them tidy.
Two exclusions apply automatically and are not affected by tags:
- Blocked contacts are never included.
- Unsubscribed contacts are excluded from campaigns using a Marketing template.

Naming that stays usable
Tags are free text, which is exactly how a workspace ends up with vip, VIP
and V.I.P. A few habits prevent that:
- Pick one case and stick to it.
- Prefix by kind so the list groups itself:
city-mumbai,city-delhi,src-instagram,src-shopify,stage-lead,stage-customer. - Make tags for things you will actually filter or broadcast on. A tag nobody filters by is a tag nobody maintains.
- Store facts about a person in a custom contact field, not a tag. Tags are for grouping.
